SEO Software Pricing: What an Agency Pays for 5, 10, and 20 Clients
SEO software pricing for an agency depends less on the headline plan than on seats, website caps and tracked keywords. This guide prices those limits for three hypothetical agency sizes, using list prices from official vendor pages.
TL;DR: what should an agency budget?
On our hypothetical profiles, budget from $145 a month at 5 clients to about $1,009 at 20, depending on the suite. SE Ranking has the lowest modeled cost at every size, while Semrush turns quote-only at 20 clients.
- Top pick on cost: SE Ranking, from $145, $177 and $359 a month across the three profiles.
- Top pick for 5 clients who want included seats: Moz Pro Medium at $179, with 2 users.
- Seats drive the bill: Ahrefs goes from $169 to $1,009, mostly because of users.
- Watch update speed: Ahrefs tracks ranks weekly by default on every plan.
- Local and crawler add-ons: add about $85 a month, or $130 at 20 clients.
What actually drives an agency's SEO software bill?
Seats and capacity limits drive the bill more than the base plan does. An agency that adds clients and staff usually hits a user, website or keyword cap first, and the extra seats can cost more than the plan.
Most stacks combine a tiered suite, a local tool, a per-user crawler licence and, at scale, a quote-only tier. For product fit rather than cost, start with our SEO platform shortlist by team type or the wider SEO software hub.
What do the main vendors charge?
On monthly billing, the entry plans compared here are Semrush SEO at $139, Ahrefs Lite at $129, SE Ranking Core at $129 and Moz Pro Standard at $99. What separates them is how many websites, keywords and users each tier includes, and what each extra user costs.
Semrush
- Plans: the pricing page lists SEO at $139, Starter at $199 and Pro+ at $299 a month (checked 8 November 2026). SEO and Starter both cover 5 websites and 500 daily keywords; Pro+ covers 15 and 1,500.
- Advanced: the same page shows a custom price, with 40 websites and 5,000 keywords in the plan comparison.
- Extra users: the user management page prices them at $45 on Starter, $80 on Pro+ and $100 on Advanced (checked 8 November 2026). Giving an added user AI Visibility access costs another $99.
- Best for: agencies that want daily tracking and AI visibility in one account.
- Skip it if: you have many staff on Pro+, where seats quickly approach the plan price.
Ahrefs
- Plans: the pricing page lists Lite at $129, Standard at $249 and Advanced at $449 a month, with 750, 2,000 and 5,000 tracked keywords (checked 8 November 2026). Enterprise is sold through sales.
- Extra users: that page lists up to 2 at $40, up to 5 at $60 and up to 10 at $80 a month. An Ahrefs help article adds a lower $20 casual rate on Lite, and no charge for inactive users (checked 8 November 2026).
- Projects: verified projects are unlimited, and unverified ones are capped at 5, 20 and 50.
- Rank updates: Ahrefs says tracked keywords update weekly by default on all plans (checked 8 November 2026).
- Best for: small teams that can work with weekly rank data.
- Skip it if: clients expect daily rank movement.
SE Ranking
- Plans: the subscription page lists Core at $129 with 10 projects, 2,000 daily keywords and 1 seat, and Growth at $279 with 30 projects, 5,000 keywords and 3 seats (checked 8 November 2026).
- Extra seats: SE Ranking's FAQ says they start from $16 a month on any plan (checked 8 November 2026). That is a floor, and the rate on monthly billing isn't stated separately.
- Agency Pack: the same page lists white label and 30 client seats at +$69 a month, annual billing only (checked 8 November 2026).
- Best for: cost-focused agencies that need daily tracking.
- Skip it if: you need white label but won't commit to annual billing.
Moz Pro
- Plans: the pricing page lists Standard at $99, Medium at $179 and Large at $299 a month (checked 8 November 2026). They include 1, 2 and 3 users, 3, 10 and 25 tracked sites, and 300, 1,500 and 3,000 keywords.
- Add-ons: the same page lists extra seats at $49 a month, and 200 more keywords at $20.
- Branded reports: the plan comparison leaves them out of Standard.
- Best for: small agencies that value included seats.
- Skip it if: you need well over 3,000 keywords, because add-on packs start to stack up.
What do tools outside the suite cost?
- AgencyAnalytics: lists $20 per client a month, billed annually, with unlimited staff and client users (checked 8 November 2026). Rank tracking is an add-on. Best for white-label reporting; skip it if your suite's reports already satisfy clients.
- BrightLocal: Track costs $62 a month for 2 to 5 locations and $83 for 6 to 10 (checked 8 November 2026). The price covers the whole band. Best for local clients; skip it if few clients have a physical location.
- Local Falcon: Starter is $24.99 a month for 7,500 credits and Basic is $49.99 for 15,150 (checked 8 November 2026). Best for map-grid checks; skip it if you need a full local suite.
- Screaming Frog: $279 a year per licence, or $265 from five licences, and free up to 500 URLs (checked 8 November 2026). Best for technical audits; skip the licence if client sites stay under 500 URLs.
Our SE Ranking versus Semrush comparison on agency limits and the Semrush and Ahrefs workflow comparison go deeper on how these structures play out.
What do 5, 10 and 20-client agencies need?
A five-client agency in our model needs 2 logins and 500 tracked keywords, while a twenty-client agency needs 8 logins and 4,000 keywords. These profiles are hypothetical assumptions, not vendor data or client results, so replace each figure with your own.
- Profile 1 (hypothetical): 5 clients, 2 people, 100 keywords per client, 2 local clients, 1 crawler licence.
- Profile 2 (hypothetical): 10 clients, 4 people, 150 keywords per client, 4 local clients, 1 crawler licence.
- Profile 3 (hypothetical): 20 clients, 8 people, 200 keywords per client, 10 local clients, 2 crawler licences.
The method is the same for each vendor. Pick the lowest tier where websites and keywords fit, multiply logins beyond the included count by the extra-user price, then add keyword packs. We also assume one website or project per client, and one location per local client.
What does each profile cost?
Before local tools, the modeled suite cost runs from $145 to $184 at five clients, and from $359 to $1,009 at twenty where a list price exists. These are hypothetical calculations from confirmed list prices on monthly billing, not quotes.
| Tool | 5 clients, 2 people | 10 clients, 4 people | 20 clients, 8 people |
|---|---|---|---|
| Semrush | SEO $139 + 1 user at $45 = $184 (assumed seat rate) | Pro+ $299 + 3 users at $80 = $539 | Advanced quote + 7 users at $100 = quote + $700 |
| Ahrefs | Lite $129 + 1 user at $40 = $169 | Standard $249 + 3 users at $60 = $429 | Advanced $449 + 7 users at $80 = $1,009 |
| SE Ranking | Core $129 + 1 seat from $16 = from $145 | Core $129 + 3 seats from $16 = from $177 | Growth $279 + 5 seats from $16 = from $359 |
| Moz Pro | Medium $179, 2 users included | Medium $179 + 2 seats at $49 = $277 | Large $299 + 5 seats at $49 + 5 keyword packs at $20 = $644 |
| BrightLocal Track | $62 | $62 | $83 |
| Screaming Frog | 1 licence: $23.25 a month | 1 licence: $23.25 a month | 2 licences: $46.50 a month |
Semrush doesn't name its SEO plan in the seat table, so $184 assumes the "starting at $45" add-on rate applies. Starter's $45 rate is listed, which puts that option at a firm $244.
Profile 1: five clients, two people
Add BrightLocal Track and one crawler licence, which total $85.25. The hypothetical stack is then from $230.25 on SE Ranking, $254.25 on Ahrefs, $264.25 on Moz Pro and $269.25 on Semrush SEO.
Our pick is SE Ranking Core. Choose Moz Pro Medium if you want 10 sites and a second seat at a fixed price.
Profile 2: ten clients, four people
With the same $85.25 add-ons, the stack is from $262.25 on SE Ranking, $362.25 on Moz Pro, $514.25 on Ahrefs and $624.25 on Semrush Pro+. Seats are now the swing line: three extra users add $240 on Semrush.
SE Ranking Core and Moz Pro Medium fit 10 projects exactly, so a prospect project pushes you up a tier or into add-ons. SE Ranking Growth plus one seat, from $295 before add-ons, leaves that room.
Profile 3: twenty clients, eight people
Add-ons rise to $129.50. The stack is from $488.50 on SE Ranking, $773.50 on Moz Pro and $1,138.50 on Ahrefs. Semrush needs an Advanced quote, because 20 websites exceed Pro+'s 15.
Get any quote in writing, with renewal terms. Agencies this size often add a reporting or rank-tracking layer; AgencyAnalytics at 20 clients lists $400 a month on annual billing ($20 x 20). Our client SEO reporting software guide and multi-client rank tracking roundup explain when that layer earns its cost.
Should you pay monthly or annually?
Pay monthly until your client count has held steady for a quarter, then move to annual billing. The savings run from about 17% to 25%, but annual plans lock in capacity you may not use if a large client leaves.
- Semrush: annual lists SEO at $117.33, Starter at $165.17 and Pro+ at $248.17 a month, and the full year is paid upfront (both checked 8 November 2026).
- Ahrefs: the pricing page says up to 17%, and a help article gives Standard as $2,490 a year (checked 8 November 2026), or $207.50 a month. Lite and Advanced annual prices weren't confirmed.
- SE Ranking: Core is $103.20 and Growth $223.20 a month billed annually (checked 8 November 2026). White label on Core works out at $172.20 ($103.20 + $69) before extra seats.
- Moz Pro: yearly billing lists $79, $143 and $239 a month (checked 8 November 2026). The 20% discount applies to the base plan.
- BrightLocal: annual Track is $47 a month for 2 to 5 locations and $62 for 6 to 10 (checked 8 November 2026).
- Local Falcon: Starter annual is $299.88 for 90,000 credits (checked 8 November 2026), the same as twelve monthly payments. The gain is that credits last the year instead of expiring monthly.
Before you switch, check whether add-on prices change on annual billing. Semrush says mid-term add-ons are prorated into one upfront payment.
What pushes you into the next tier?
The usual triggers are the website or project cap, the extra-user cap, the keyword allowance and the need for faster rank updates. Map your growth plan against those four limits before you sign.
- Website caps: Semrush's 5 websites fit exactly five clients, so a sixth client forces Pro+. Count prospect projects too.
- User caps: Ahrefs' caps of 2, 5 and 10 extra users mean headcount alone can force a plan change.
- Keyword allowances: at 100 keywords per client, Semrush's 500 run out at five clients, while SE Ranking Core's 10 projects run out before its 2,000 keywords.
- Update frequency: if clients expect daily movement, Ahrefs' weekly default is a product gap as well as a cost issue.
Will your real invoice match the model?
Probably not exactly, because taxes, currency, seat rates and mid-term upgrades all move the number. Use the model to spot which limit you'll hit first, not to predict an invoice to the dollar.
What isn't public, and what should you ask sales?
Enterprise tiers, Semrush Advanced, volume discounts and renewal pricing are quote-only or not stated. Ask for them in writing, because they decide what you'll pay in year two.
- Which limits are per account, and which are per user or per project?
- What does an extra seat cost on monthly billing versus annual billing?
- Can client viewers access reports without a paid seat?
- What will renewal cost after the first term?
What should a budget planning checklist include?
Use one row per client, with sites, tracked keywords, update frequency, locations, competitors, report format and logins. Total each column, then compare the totals against every plan's caps before you look at price.
Add client viewers and renewal date in your own spreadsheet. If several clients have physical locations, our local SEO software guide covers which local layer to add.
To weigh the total against value, the SEO tool ROI model turns these inputs into a 90-day business case. The free SEO tools worth keeping alongside a suite can take some lines off the bill.
What else do agencies ask about SEO software pricing?
Most questions are about how current the figures are, seats and whether cheaper suites hold up at scale. The short answers are below.
How current are the prices on this page?
Every figure was fetched from the vendor's official page on 8 November 2026. Vendors change plans often, so confirm the price on the linked page before you buy.
Is the cheapest suite the best value for a small agency?
Not automatically. Compare the total after extra seats, white-label reporting and rank update frequency, because a lower entry price can hide those costs.
Do client viewers need paid seats?
Often not, but the route differs by vendor. Semrush says users can share view-only project access for free, SE Ranking's Agency Pack adds 30 view-only client seats, and AgencyAnalytics includes unlimited client users.
When does an enterprise quote make sense?
Get one when your websites or users pass the largest self-serve tier, or when you need contract terms such as SSO or a service level agreement. Semrush Advanced is already quote-only, so a 20-client agency may reach that point early.
How often should you re-check these numbers?
Re-check every 60 to 90 days, and straight after any announced plan change. Vendors rename tiers and move limits often, so an older budget may already be wrong.
If you're paying for overlapping subscriptions across email, CRM and analytics as well, a marketing stack audit for duplicate subscriptions applies the same discipline more widely. If you spot an error here, send the official source and we'll correct the page.
