SE Ranking vs Semrush: Agency Pricing, Limits, and Reporting

In SE Ranking vs Semrush, agency economics favor SE Ranking: on our hypothetical 15-client workload it costs less than half as much once white-label reports and seats are added. Semrush earns its premium only if you bill for its wider research and AI visibility tools every month.

SE Ranking vs Semrush: Agency Pricing, Limits, and Reporting

TL;DR: which should your agency pick?

Pick SE Ranking if your margin depends on tracking and reporting. Pick Semrush only if research and AI visibility are work you bill for.

  • Top pick up to 10 clients: SE Ranking Core plus the Agency Pack, about $172 a month billed annually.
  • Top pick for 11 to 30 clients: SE Ranking Growth plus the Agency Pack, about $292 a month billed annually.
  • Top pick for research-led agencies: Semrush Pro+, with users and reports budgeted separately.
  • Biggest cost trap: Semrush charges per white-label report and per extra user, so its bill grows with every client.

Who should buy each tool, and who should skip it?

SE Ranking suits agencies that sell tracking, audits and branded reporting at a fixed monthly cost. Semrush suits agencies whose margin comes from research depth and AI visibility rather than report volume.

SE Ranking: best for capacity and flat-fee white label

  • Best for: freelancers and agencies with up to 30 clients and repeatable delivery.
  • Skip it if: you need white label on monthly billing, or you depend on search volume data. SE Ranking's own FAQ says its search volume figures trail Semrush and Ahrefs (checked 8 November 2026).

Semrush: best for research-led client work

  • Best for: agencies that sell competitive research and AI visibility work, and want them beside tracking in one account.
  • Skip it if: you send a white-label report to every client, or you run tight on seats. Those costs scale per item.

For the wider field, our guide to SEO software for agencies and in-house teams and the SEO software category overview cover the other suites.

How are SE Ranking and Semrush positioned?

SE Ranking sells capacity-rich SEO plans, with an Agency Pack add-on for white label and client access. Semrush sells a plan ladder for SEO and AI visibility, then adds specialist toolkits and per-item extras on top.

Semrush's ladder now has four rungs: SEO, Starter, Pro+ and a custom-priced Advanced (checked 8 November 2026). Its knowledge base uses the Semrush One name for Starter, Pro+ and Advanced (checked 8 November 2026). Ignore older reviews that quote Pro and Guru tiers.

Traffic and Market, Local, Content, Social, Advertising and AI PR are bought on top of a plan (checked 8 November 2026). So paid-search research isn't part of the plan price.

How do their plan limits compare?

SE Ranking Core costs less than Semrush's cheapest plan yet lists twice the projects and four times the tracked keywords. Semrush's edge is a larger AI prompt allowance from Starter upward, not tracking capacity.

Table figures come from SE Ranking's subscription page and FAQ, plus Semrush's pricing page, user management article and subscriptions article (all checked 8 November 2026).

What does a 5-client agency pay?

On our hypothetical 5-client workload, SE Ranking Core with the Agency Pack costs about $172 a month, against about $217 for the Semrush SEO plan with white-label reports, both billed annually. Moving up to Semrush Starter for its AI prompts takes that to about $265.

Hypothetical assumptions: five client sites, 100 tracked keywords each (500 in total), one person logging in, one white-labeled monthly report per client, annual billing because the Agency Pack requires it, tax excluded. Our arithmetic, from the listed prices above.

  • SE Ranking Core: $103.20 plus the $69 Agency Pack is $172.20 a month, leaving room for 5 more projects and 1,500 more keywords.
  • Semrush SEO: $117.33 plus five Pro Reports at $20 is $217.33 a month, at exactly its 5-website and 500-keyword caps.
  • Semrush Starter: $165.17 plus five Pro Reports is $265.17 a month, with the same caps plus 50 daily AI prompts.

Without white-label reports on monthly billing, it's $129 for Core against $139 for the SEO plan and $199 for Starter. A second person costs from $16 on SE Ranking and from $45 on Semrush.

What does a 15-client agency pay?

At 15 clients, SE Ranking Growth with the Agency Pack costs about $292 a month, against about $708 for Semrush Pro+ with two extra users and 15 white-label reports, on annual billing. Most of the gap is Semrush's per-report and per-user pricing.

Hypothetical assumptions: 15 client sites, 100 tracked keywords each (1,500 in total), three team members, one white-labeled monthly report per client, annual billing, tax excluded. Our arithmetic, from the listed prices above.

  • SE Ranking Growth: $223.20 with three seats, 30 projects and 5,000 keywords, plus the $69 Agency Pack, is $292.20 a month.
  • Semrush Pro+: $248.17 (15 websites, 1,500 keywords), plus two users at $80 and 15 Pro Reports at $20, is $708.17 a month, or $408.17 without the reports.
  • If those two users need AI visibility: Semrush charges a further $99 per user for that access (checked 8 November 2026), which takes the total to $906.17.

Pro+ sits at its cap here too, so client 16 means Advanced at a custom price. These totals are illustrations, not quotes. Our SEO software pricing guide for 5, 10 and 20 clients adds other suites to the same model.

What is included and what becomes an add-on?

SE Ranking bundles more tracking capacity, seats and now basic AI prompt tracking, and sells white label through one flat add-on. Semrush includes more AI prompts from Starter upward but charges separately for extra users, white-label reports, local tools and specialist toolkits.

If AI visibility is a paid service, Semrush's larger prompt allowances narrow the gap. If you only want a light read on one brand, SE Ranking's included prompts may be enough.

How do local SEO features compare?

SE Ranking includes three local locations in its plans, while Semrush sells local tools per location on top of your plan. With many single-location clients, that per-location fee can outweigh the core plan price.

SE Ranking's help center says Core, Growth and Enterprise each include 3 Plus locations, and its subscription page lists extra locations from $18.40 and listing management across 100+ directories (checked 8 November 2026).

Semrush lists Local Base at $30 and Local Pro at $60 per location per month, billed annually, with Listing Management only on Pro (checked 8 November 2026).

Local-only agencies often do better with a specialist; see our guide to rank tracking and reporting for a local SEO agency.

Which produces better client-facing reports?

On paper, SE Ranking gives more white-label control for a flat fee, because it rebrands the whole platform as well as the reports. Semrush's Pro Report is strong per report, but report clarity is something plan pages can't settle.

During a trial, build the same monthly report for one real client in each tool and show it to someone outside SEO. For tools built only for reporting, see our SEO reporting software comparison and the white-label reporting platforms for digital agencies.

How do onboarding and trials compare?

SE Ranking gives you a longer trial with no card required, and the Agency Pack is open during it. Semrush offers a shorter trial plus a limited Free plan, so plan your evaluation before you start the clock.

Use either trial as a workflow check: import two real client projects, set up tracking and schedule one report. Our guide to building an SEO tool stack without duplicate features helps you decide what the suite must cover and what can stay in specialist tools.

Where does each fall short for agencies?

SE Ranking's main constraints are white label tied to annual billing and search volume data that the vendor itself says is behind. Semrush's main constraints are plan caps that sit exactly at common client counts, plus add-ons that scale with every new client and person.

For client visibility beyond SEO reports, see our client portal software for SEO agencies; for tracking-only alternatives, the rank tracking software roundup.

What else do agencies ask about SE Ranking and Semrush?

Questions usually cover data quality, billing terms, plan names and running both tools. Short answers follow.

Is SE Ranking's data as good as Semrush's?

It depends on the metric, and SE Ranking's published comparison is its own benchmark, not an independent one. Its FAQ says its search volume trails Semrush, so compare both tools on clients whose real performance you know from Search Console.

Can I get white-label reports from SE Ranking on monthly billing?

Not through the Agency Pack. SE Ranking lists it as an add-on for annual billing only, so a monthly subscriber can't buy it.

Is the Semrush SEO plan the same as Semrush One?

No. Semrush One refers to Starter, Pro+ and Advanced, while the SEO plan is the cheaper rung below them with no dedicated AI prompt quota, so check which one a quote or review refers to.

Should an agency run both tools?

Rarely at these client counts, because the two plans overlap on tracking, audits and research. It only pays off if research is billable work every month and SE Ranking still handles your reporting.

How often should we recheck these prices?

Every 60 to 90 days, and before any renewal. Both vendors have changed packaging recently, so older reviews may describe plans and add-ons that are no longer sold.

Which fits your agency size?

Up to about 30 clients, agencies that mainly sell tracking, audits and reporting should buy SE Ranking on cost and headroom. Agencies that sell competitive research or AI visibility should buy Semrush Pro+, provided reports and users are budgeted per client.

  • 1 to 10 clients: SE Ranking Core plus the Agency Pack.
  • 11 to 30 clients: SE Ranking Growth plus the Agency Pack.
  • Research-led, up to 15 clients: Semrush Pro+.
  • Beyond those limits: SE Ranking Enterprise or Semrush Advanced, both custom priced, so get quotes from each.

Price your real workload with the scenarios above. If you're still undecided, compare a third option in our Semrush vs Ahrefs comparison, then start your trial on the vendor's official site. Vendors and readers can submit evidence-based corrections to this page.
